The Design
The original owners of this 16-year-old builder home decided it was time to upgrade their master bath. Their main "wish list" included upgrading the cabinetry and countertop, and expanding and enhancing the shower area while creating an atmosphere that would be both fashionably current and personably comfortable for many years to come. Donaldson collaborated with the homeowners on the design details, including lighting, tile selection and accent placement. Now, the space where the homeowners start and end their day is a comfortable, functional and beautiful place.

Rustic Elegance

The Mission
Create a unique, highly-functional space from a small 1970s kitchen

The Design
The owners of this home are very artistic and wanted their renovation to reflect their African travels and art collection. The elegant yet rustic style helped capture their desires, while the creative design combined aesthetics and efficiency. First, the kitchen was doubled in size, the ceiling was raised, and the laundry room was moved to create space for a large walk-in pantry. Accents such as a copper range hood and appliances with built-in panels enhance the rustic feel. Two sets of banquettes create an interesting touch and double as work spaces. Now, the kitchen functions not only for cooking and entertaining, but also as an office.

The Perfect Zen

The Mission
Transform a typical 1970s bathroom into a Zen-like luxury master bath

The Design
This bathroom was a flashback to the days of disco, complete with flamboyant wallpaper and sunken tub, and the homeowners wanted a more modern, luxurious look. The focal point of the new bath is a custom designed and built Japanese soaking tub with water descending from a ceiling-mounted tub filler. The bath is full of other custom accents including a custom-designed, nautilus-shaped shower with a frameless curved glass enclosure rimmed in gold mosaic tile; a custom vanity topped in gold mosaic tile; and custom cedar cabinetry with a flame-burnished finish. The natural materials blend the elements and earthy flagstone flooring adds to the Zen-like spa feel.
