Parade of homes
The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Metro Orlando will be hosting the 2008 Spring Parade of Homes April 6-20. This annual event draws some of the best local homebuilders and remodelers together for a display of the finest homes in the area. In 2008, the Parade of Homes will showcase more than 125 homes, including the featured home pictured here by Reiche & Silliman Inc. This is a great opportunity to check out the work of new and established builders alike. For more information, call the HBA of Metro Orlando at (407) 629-9242 or visit

Citrus appeal
Oranges, lemons and limes can be used in all kinds of recipes. Here are a few tips for selecting and preserving citrus fruit.

  • Choose fruits that feel firm and are heavy, a sign of juiciness.
  • Avoid fruits with blemishes or soft spots.
  • Skin color is not necessarily an indicator of quality; oranges, for example, are sometimes dyed.
  • Most citrus fruits can be stored at room temperature for about a week or in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 weeks. The fruit will be juicier and sweeter if brought to room temperature before serving.

Quick tip
What is the secret to keeping your wood fences from falling apart? Most wood fences are installed too close to the ground, where rot and termite damage forms quickly, ruining your fence. To avoid this, treat the bottom of the fence boards with a preservative, and try to keep them at least 3 inches off the soil.
